Directions for Current Events

You have been assigned ______________________ as your "Current Event" Day.

You are to find an article that does not take place in any of the 50 United States. You may find this current article in a newspaper, magazine, God’s World, or the internet. It must be at least 5 paragraphs long. (One paragraph should be about 4 sentences.) On another sheet of paper or an index card use the article to write the answers to these questions:

What event happened?

Why did this event happen?

When did this event occur?

Where did this event take place?

Who was involved with this event?

How is this event important?

Your current event will be a weekly History grade. You will be graded on following instructions, article content, answered questions and speech performance. It is a good idea to practice saying your current event speech at home. Try to know the information well enough so you won’t need to look at your notes. A good speaker will speak clearly, have good eye contact with other students, and not say the word "um" a thousand times.

These current events will help you to learn how to speak properly in front of an audience. This is very important for future assignments, not just in 5th grade, but throughout your school career.

Please keep the top portion and return this part.
